How Will the New Town be Organized?


  • Oakhurst will be a General Law Town under the State Constitution
  • Oakhurst will be governed by five Town Council persons, who will hire a Town Manager to oversee day-to-day operations.  Town Council persons could receive monthly stipends up to $300 for their services.
  • Initial staffing is projected to include seven full time employees.
  • Like most newly formed cities, Oakhurst would contract with the County, the state, as well as private enterprises to supply the needed services for the town
  • Oakhurst is required by law to adopt all of the applicable County laws, regulations and fees that exist at the time of incorporation.  These include the county general plan, the Oakhurst Area Plan, land development rules,  RMA fee schedules, Business License fees, animal control fees, maintenance district operating fees, etc.
